COVID UPDATE 3.26.21

Dutchess County encourages residents to complete its Vaccination Information Request Form for residents to receive a notification when a vaccine appointment is available to them, based on eligibility, at a County Point of Dispensing (POD) site. Those who sign up will also receive updates about vaccine availability at other providers around Dutchess County, including hospitals, medical practices and pharmacies. The form is available on the County’s vaccine information page: www.DutchessNY.gov/COVIDvaccine.

The County has two POD locations — one at the former JCPenney store at the Poughkeepsie Galleria at 2001 South Road Route 9, Poughkeepsie, and the former CVS at 3081 Route 22, Dover. These sites are by appointment only.

Those without internet access can call the Dutchess County Coronavirus Information Line at 845-486-3555 to hear weekly updates about vaccine availability in the county by selecting Option 1. Those over 65 years old can then choose to be connected with the Office for the Aging to be added to notification lists about appointment availability.

New York State also has established its own mass vaccination sites across the state, and residents can go to https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov to check their eligibility and see if appointments are available. They also can call the New York State COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline (1-833-697-4829), which is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., for scheduling appointments at New York State-run vaccination sites.

Demolition of Old Highway Garage to Begin this week!!!

I am  pleased to announce that the demolition of the Old Highway Garage is finally happening!  Work will begin either this Thursday, March 16th or Monday the 22nd.  The building has been derelict since 2017, and will no longer be a hazard or an eyesore.  The project all consists of putting up a wall to shore up the metal pole barn and erecting a safety fence at the top of the property!

We will work to honor the origin of the building, when it was the Bordens Dairy

Big Rock’s 2021 Farmer’s & Market Fair

Big Rock is hosting a 2021 Farmer’s & Makers Fair on April 24th from 11 am – 4 pm!

This event will be centered on their front lawn but the rest of town is encouraged to join in with ourdoor displays & promotional activities.  A few of Stanford’s farmers and makers will be setting up booths behind tables with pop-up tents.  There will be plenty of space & picnic tables. With so many new residents this event can be the perfect opportunity to interact with the community & convince them to #ShopStanfordville!

Supervisor’s 5 Year Strategic Plan

Supervisor’s 5 Year Strategic Plan

I have created this as a fluid document, to articulate a mission statement and set goals and actions to accomplish this vision.

My greatest hope has been to help unify the Stanford Community.  I view my role as Supervisor as broader than being the C.F.O. of the Town – which includes stabilizing our taxes and being an honest and transparent steward of our tax payers funds, along with the Town Board.  I post this document with the hope that it will be read, and that we can answer your questions and take your suggestions at our Town Board Meetings.  We are here to serve this Community, and I take that responsibility very seriously.

Calling all Artists and Artisans

We have so very many talented artists and artisans in the Town of Stanford and I would like to showcase someone’s work each month on our website.  It would be an excellent way for all of us to explore the talent within our own Community.

There will be a gallery of photographs of your work – be in wood craft or paintings, pottery or jewelry.  Whatever your art is, I would love to begin to feature it.

Please send a sample of your work to me at wburton@townofstanford.org so I can begin to create a calendar of shows.

The Stanford Quarantine Cookbook

It’s almost a year since we were first quarantined due to Covid. It’s been tough time but it has given us the opportunity to be creative in the kitchen. Whether it’s been baking, making ice cream during the summer, trying out new recipes, or pulling out the old family favorites, food has been a consolation. Some of us may have gotten bored with our own recipes and are looking for new ones!!!

Now is the time to share those recipes with your neighbors. The Stanford Events Committee is compiling a cookbook, the Stanford Quarantine Cookbook, that will be available to all residents on June 1st. Please share! Send your recipes to stanfordquarantinecookbook@gmail.com. Please include your name, address and telephone number. This is open to all Town of Stanford residents.
